Laser Hair Removal FAQ's
something about hoping these help but always ask at your consultation or .. contact with any questions you may have.
How does it work?
Laser hair removal uses targeted wavelengths of light that are selectively absorbed by the
melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle. This controlled energy heats and disables the follicle at
the root, preventing future hair growth and allowing the treated hair to naturally fall out. Over
a series of sessions, this results in long-lasting hair reduction and noticeably smoother skin.
At Olive, we use the advanced SMARTDiode laser system, which combines triple-
wavelength technology with high peak power and integrated cooling to deliver effective
results with maximum comfort. This cutting-edge technology ensures precise, safe
treatments tailored to your skin type, making it a smart, reliable choice for permanent hair
reduction
How long does it take?
Laser hair removal is most effective when the hair is in its active growth phase (also known
as the anagen phase). However, only about 30% of hair is in this stage at any given time, the
rest is in the transition or resting phases, where it's not visible on the surface and cannot be
effectively targeted by the laser.
Because of this natural hair growth cycle, multiple sessions are required to treat all the hairs
as they move through each stage. For optimal, long-lasting results, we typically recommend
6–8 sessions, spaced 4–8 weeks apart, depending on your hair type, skin type, and
treatment area.
At Olive, we value your time, which is why we’ve invested in the SMARTDiode laser system.
This advanced technology delivers maximum results in minimal treatment time, with
sessions ranging from as little as 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
How many sessions will I need?
For long-lasting, effective results, we recommend starting with a course of 6 laser hair
removal sessions, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. This timing allows us to target the hair during
its active growth phase for maximum impact.
Some clients may require additional sessions depending on individual factors such as hair
density, growth cycles, and hormonal influences. During your consultation, we’ll tailor a
treatment plan to suit your unique needs and help you achieve the smooth, hair-free skin
you’re looking for.
How do I get started?
If you're considering laser hair removal, we’d love to hear from you. Feel free to reach out
through our contact form, email, or social media. You can also book a consultation directly
using our online booking system.
Before starting any treatments, a patch test is required at least 48 hours in advance. This will
be carried out during your consultation, where we’ll also assess your suitability for laser hair
removal, discuss your individual goals, go over any relevant medical considerations, and
explain pre- and post-treatment care to ensure the best possible results
Do I need to do anything beforehand?
To ensure the effectiveness of your laser hair removal treatments, it’s important to stop waxing, plucking, tweezing, threading, or using hair removal creams at least 30 days before your first session. These methods remove the hair from the follicle, which needs to remain intact for the laser to properly target it. Only shaving is recommended before and between treatments, as it maintains the follicle while keeping the area smooth.
Laser treatments cannot be performed on tanned skin, whether from sun exposure or fake tan. Please avoid applying self-tanner and stay out of the sun on the areas to be treated for at least 7 days prior to your appointment.
How do I book a consultation?
Your laser hair removal journey will begin with a face-to-face consultation, lasting
approximately 20 to 30 minutes. This allows us to assess your suitability for treatment,
discuss your goals, and carry out a required patch test.
You can book your consultation easily here.

Do I need to have a patch test?
At Olive, a patch test is required at least 48 hours before starting any laser hair removal
treatments. This is an important step to ensure your skin is suitable for the procedure and to
identify any potential reactions before moving forward with a full treatment.
The patch test is carried out during your initial consultation and is also a necessary
requirement for insurance and safety purposes. It allows us to tailor the treatment to your
skin and hair type, ensuring safe, comfortable, and effective results throughout your course.
How do I arrive for my treatment?
Please arrive at your appointment with clean, product-free skin. The area being treated
should be clean-shaven within 24 hours before your session, as we need as little hair on the
surface as possible for the laser to effectively target the follicle.
To avoid any irritation or adverse reactions, please ensure you are not wearing any perfume,
body oils, moisturisers, or deodorant on the treatment area. If needed, cleansing wipes will
be available, so don’t worry if you’re not coming straight from the shower.
We also recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment to prevent any
friction or irritation on the skin post-treatment.

Does it hurt?
At Olive, we’ve invested in the latest technology featuring ‘Crystal Freeze’ cooling, which
keeps your skin at a constant, cool 5°C throughout your laser hair removal session. This
advanced cooling system protects your skin and ensures your treatments are as comfortable
as possible.
During the procedure, you may feel a mild, prickly sensation, that’s completely normal!
Chloë will regularly check in with you to make sure you’re comfortable and will adjust
the settings as needed. You should never experience intense pain during your treatments,
only gentle, manageable sensations.
How many treatments will I require?
On average, clients require 6 to 8 sessions, scheduled every 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the
hair growth cycle in the treated area. Because every body is unique, we carefully assess
your progress at each appointment and tailor the treatment plan to your individual needs.
Laser hair removal works by targeting hair in the active growth phase (anagen phase) which
represents about 30% of the hair at any given time, while the remaining 70% is dormant.
Multiple sessions are necessary to effectively treat all hairs as they cycle through this stage.
What areas can be treated?
Our laser hair removal treatments are suitable for all external areas of the face and body,
giving you smooth, hair-free skin wherever you want it.
Can all skin types be treated?
At Olive, inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. We've invested in advanced laser
technology that is suitable for all skin types, ensuring that everyone can experience the
benefits of our treatments.
Is it permanent?
The hair on your body will never be the same again after laser hair removal treatments.
While most hair is reduced, new growth can occasionally appear from dormant follicles
missed during your treatment cycle or due to hormonal changes. To keep your skin smooth
and hair-free, we offer top-up sessions to target any new hairs that may emerge after your
initial course.
How much does it cost?
At Olive, we offer transparent pricing for all laser hair removal treatments. The cost varies
depending on the area being treated and the number of sessions you require. For detailed
pricing, please visit the pricing page.
